A great big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped at the Great Tack Exchange on April 6.  In spite of the March blizzard forcing us to change the date, we had another successful event this year with a large crowd of visitors.  The volunteers who help bring this event together are what make it so successful.  Thanks to everyone who gave up a beautiful day outside to hep out.  WC OHC appreciates you!!

Warren County is in the process of preparing a comprehensive master plan to improve the parks, recreation and open space system throughout the County. A public workshop will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Warren County Administration Building for you to provide input regarding how you would like to improve your parks, recreation and leisure opportunities.  Please attend if you can and support our EAB efforts.

The Warren County Regional Planning Commission is in the process of updating the Warren County Park and Open Space Plan that was originally written in 1985. In order to complete the needs assessment portion of the plan, we need input from the community.

Please visit our website at www.co.warren.oh.us/planning/ or www.co.warren.oh.us/planning/parks_survey.pdf to take our on-line survey and tell us what you think about any of the parks throughout Warren County (which includes any state, city, township, or village park) and what you would like to see for the future. This will help all the local governments throughout the county to plan for open spaces, future parks and their amenities. If there are specific comments that you may want us to know about, please feel free to email those comments to our staff when the form is submitted via email to Kimberly.Lapensee@co.warren.oh.us. Our goal is to receive at least 2000 responses to this survey and we currently only have 130 responses, so please contact us to let us know what you think.

You can also print and return the attached survey to Kim Lapensee, Deputy Director Warren County Regional Planning Commission, 406 Justice Dr., Lebanon, OH  45036.

If you
would like to visit the Warren County Park's website, go to:  www.co.warren.oh.us/parks/general.htm

Thank
you for taking time to fill out this survey.  Your input helps me as a County Commissioner, our Park Board, and our Planning  Commission know and understand what is important for our future parks.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Pat South
Warren County Commissioner

The Equine Advisory Board to the Warren County Regional Planning Commission is conducting a census to determine the number of horses in Warren County. By determining the equine economic impact to the county, we intend to make recommendations to the WCRPC that will benefit all county horse owners in terms of future parks, use of open space, etc.

If you are a Warren County resident AND own a horse, please help by completing this brief survey:

MORE ON THE TREE FUND:

20 years ago on Green Up Day the Warren County OHC members had the foresight to plant Ash tree saplings at the Caesar's Creek State Park Horsecamp knowing that one day those little trees would become large, beautiful shade trees for everyone to enjoy.

What wasn't known back in 1987 was how a tiny little bug, the Emerald Ash Borer, would one day wipe out millions of these beautiful trees.  The Ash tree is disappearing from the landscape and 20 years from now they likely will be gone.

Once again, WC OHC is planning for the future - a future 20 years from now...a future 40, 60, 80 years from now...when giant shade trees once again grace the Horsecamp at CCSP.  Help sponsor this project by participating in the Tree Fund project:

A VERY special THANK YOU to Marvin Duren of Marvin's Organic Gardens, Lebanon, Ohio for helping us with the Tree Fund project and with our trail work day on August 18.

Great Seal State Park:
This just in from our fellow OHC'rs:

From: Wendy Metzler

Hello,
I rode at Great Seal last weekend & was asked by the ranger there why no horse people use their new campground.  They have worked very hard to upgrade the campground especially for the horse community.  I told him I  hadn't heard anything about it.  He mentioned that they have reworked alot of the trails to include more switchbacks on some of the steeper sections, and would love to spread the word that the park is better than ever.  I rode quite a few of the new trails and they were great!

Great Seal is in Chillicothe, about an hour from Dayton.

Mickie Newnam (Greene County OHC) added:

It's a little more than an hour from Dayton, but from what I've heard of the trails, well worth it.

Sounds great and not too far from home!  Check out Great Seal SP on line:  Great Seal State Park
